Export Development Canada (EDC) is trying to erase borders in a way. EDC provides a variety of financial services, including financing, insurance, and risk management, to help exporters and investors in Canada to expand their international business. It also performs financial reporting and economic analysis. The agency serves more than 8,000 companies annually, the majority of them small businesses. Created in 1944 as an official export credit agency, EDC is wholly owned by the Canadian government. It operates as a self-sustaining commercial entity, but it is accountable to Canada's Minister of International Trade and the Canadian Parliament.
