Artisans have found a friend in Etsy. The company operates Esty.com, which has been billed as "the handcrafter's Amazon.com", an online marketplace for handmade and vintage items such as jewelry, clothing, art, and housewares. Etsy.com has grown to a community of more than eight million members and 800,000 online shops. Revenues come from the small listing fee and sale commission it charges sellers. Etsy also allows its sellers to buy a spot in the site's main showcase of featured items. Etsy was launched in 2005. Its office in Brooklyn, New York, called the "Etsy Labs", houses a workspace for craft-making, workshops, and special events. Etsy was founded by Robert Kalin (CEO), Chris Maguire, and Haim Schoppik.
