EDF Energies Nouvelles is in bed with Mother Nature. The company developes, finances, builds, and operates power plants using renewable energies as raw materials. It operates more than 5,200 onshore wind turbines and about 50 wind power plants in Europe and the US. EDF Energies Nouvelles also operates hydro power plants in France, Spain, and Bulgaria, and a biomass energy plant in Spain that converts agricultural by-products into electricity. In addition, it operates 17 solar power farms in the US, Spain, Italy, and France. EDF Energies Nouvelles was founded by chairman Pâris Mouratoglou in 1990 as SIIF. State-owned Electricité de France (EDF) controls half the company.
