Discovery (UK) is the overseas outpost of US-based cable programming giant Discovery Communications (DCI). The subsidiary distributes a portfolio of about a dozen channels and brands, including Animal Planet, Discovery Science, and its flagship Discovery Channel, for audiences in the UK and Ireland, presenting shows such as Deadliest Catch and Mythbusters to viewers across the pond. Discovery (UK) channels are made available through cable and satellite operators including British Sky Broadcasting and Virgin TV (owned by Virgin Media). The Discovery Channel was launched in the UK in 1989.
