DP World might be based in Dubai, but the company has its eye on the world. A leading marine terminal operator, DP (Dubai Ports) World helps big boxes full of cargo make their way around the world. The company runs some 50 container terminals at major ports in about 30 countries. (At the terminals, shipping containers -- boxes full of cargo -- are transferred between ocean-going vessels and ground transportation vehicles.) Its ports handle about 67 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) per year. DP World is owned by Port & Free Zone World, a subsidiary of Dubai World Corporation, a government-owned holding company with investments in several industry sectors, mainly related to international trade.
