Formed in 2011, the company issues unsecured short-term consumer loans of up to $1,000, charging fees from $8 to $15 per $100 borrowed in addition to interest rates, which vary by state but typically exceed a 395% APR. Its stores, operated under the CheckSmart and California Check Cashing Stores brands, also issue title loans, prepaid MasterCard debit cards, and offer check cashing, money transfers, bill payments, and money orders at more than 430 stores in 14 states. Community Choice Financial filed an IPO in 2011 but withdrew it in 2012.
