Compagnie Nationale à Portefeuille (CNP) provides private equity services to investors. CNP commands some $6 billion (€4.9 billion) in assets through a variety of direct and indirect investments. Its investing activities are coordinated both directly and through joint venture Pargesa/GBL Group. The company owns shares in such international companies as Bertelsmann, Imerys, Total S.A., oil and natural gas distributor Transcor, and cheese-maker Entremont, among others. The company purchased a 6.1% interest in French construction firm Eiffage in early 2006. Founded in 1906, CNP is controlled by the family of Baron Frère.
