Columbia Ventures Company Description

Columbia Ventures Corporation (CVC) is hoping to recycle the business savvy it applied to the aluminum manufacturing business and use it to generate returns in the telecommunications field. The private equity firm was launched in 1987 to invest in an aluminum smelter plant in Washington state. It now owns a number of manufacturing facilities, including Columbia Commercial Building Products (aluminum windows) and Specialty Chemical Products LLC (silica extraction from crushed glass). In recent years the firm has turned its attention to telecom providers; those holdings include CTC Communications and Magnet Networks (Internet, telephone, and video provider in Ireland).
