Overview
Coles Group (formerly Coles Myer) is a top dingo among Australian retailers. The company is one of the country's largest retailers, with more than 2,400 supermarkets (Coles and Bi-Lo), liquor, and convenience stores throughout Australia and New Zealand. Coles also sells apparel and general merchandise through 540-plus Target, Kmart, and Officeworks stores. (Coles holds the rights from Kmart and Target to use those banners in Australia and New Zealand.) Coles sold its Myer department store chain in mid-2006. The company changed its name in late 2006 to Coles Group Ltd. to reflect the Myer sale. Perth-based conglomerate Wesfarmers Ltd. acquired Coles Group for more than $18 billion in November 2007.
