Cogdell Spencer puts its money where your health is. The self-administered real estate investment trust (REIT) acquires, develops, and manages health care properties, including surgery centers, medical office buildings, and rehabilitation facilities, most of which are located on hospital campuses. It owns or manages about 120 properties, totaling more than 5 million sq. ft. of space in a dozen states; the majority are located in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. In 2008 Cogdell Spencer acquired Marshall Erdman & Associates (now simply known as Erdman) which designs and builds health care facilities, for some $247 million.
