COFIDE Company Description
COFIDE - Compagnia Finanziaria De Benedetti -- COFIDE for short -- isn't short on activities; the holding company sports businesses as diverse as Italy's regional cuisines. The company, controlled by Italian businessman Carlo De Benedetti, operates subsidiaries active in publishing (the Editoriale L'Espresso group); energy production (Energia); and automotive components (the SOGEFI group). COFIDE has kicked its smoking habit, selling off its tobacco machinery unit (Sasib Tobacco group), but it still has some Dry Products food machinery operations. Its main subsidiary is 46%-owned CIR, which is a holding company for most of the above operations. The De Benedetti family owns more than 40% of COFIDE.
