Overview
CLP Holdings has a powerful hold on Hong Kong. CLP is one of the largest electric utilities in Asia and is one of two Hong Kong electricity companies. Subsidiary CLP Power Hong Kong serves nearly 2.3 million customers on the former colony's mainland and outlying islands (Hong Kong Island was left to Hongkong Electric). CLP Power owns 40% of Castle Peak Power, which holds one of the world's largest coal-fired generation facilities, with Exxon Mobil (60%). CLP Holdings also has investments in energy businesses in Australia, India, Taiwan, Thailand, and on the Chinese mainland. The company has a total generating capacity of more than 17,000 MW. Chairman Michael Kadoorie and his family own 20% of CLP Holdings.
