Chiron Company Description
Fortune tellers might look at your palm, but Chiron gets more information from your blood. As part of Novartis' Vaccines and Diagnostics unit, Chiron develops nucleic acid testing systems to perform diagnostic screening of blood supplies. Such screening helps prevent the transmission of infections during blood transfusions. This is nothing new for the company; it was the first to identify the hepatitis B and C viruses. Its PROCLEIX products are used to screen for such viruses as HIV, West Nile, and hepatitis. PROCLEIX consists of testing assays, automated processing instruments, and related software. Its products screen more than 80% of the donated blood in the US and are approved for use around the world.
