Overview
China Mobile Communications is the wireless king. With more than 260 million subscribers -- covering two-thirds of its home country -- it is the largest wireless operator in the world (Ahead of China Unicom and surpassing UK-based wireless giant Vodafone Group). The company was spun off in 2000 from China Telecommunications Corporation as part of China's telecom industry restructuring for entry into the World Trade Organization. Publicly listed subsidiary China Mobile (Hong Kong) provides wireless services in 31 regions of mainland China. China's Ministry of Information Industry controls China Mobile Communications.
