Charter Communications Company Description

Charter Communications is a cable television system operator with more than 5 million residential and commerical subscribers in 40 US states, making it the #4 cable company, behind Comcast, Time Warner Cable, and Cox Communications. Not just a leading cable TV player, Charter offers broadband Internet and computer telephony services (it has almost a million phone customers), as well as HDTV. Through agreements with Digeo and Oxygen Media, Charter provides interactive television services. The company also derives a portion of its revenue from the sale of local advertising on such satellite networks as MTV and CNN. Chairman Paul Allen, a co-founder of Microsoft, controls about 90% of Charter's voting power.
