CEZ Company Description

When Czechs want to power up, they turn to ČEZ, the state-controlled company that produces, distributes, and sells electricity and heat to almost 7 million customers in the Czech Republic and neighboring countries. The power company has some 55 plants, more than half of which are hydroelectric. ČEZ, formed by the government in 1992, is now publicly traded, although the government continues to control more than two-thirds of its stock. Subsidiaries and affiliates of ČEZ form what is known as the ČEZ Group, which has operations in mining, telecommunications, and research. The group was formed in 2003 when ČEZ combined with several Czech regional utilities.
