Overview
Centros Comerciales Carrefour (aka Carrefour España) is a leading retailer in Spain. A subsidiary of the France's Carrefour, Carrefour España operates more than 3,000 stores throughout the country, including about 2,800 discount stores under the Dia Maxi and Dia Market banners. Other retail formats include about 170 hypermarkets, some 115 supermarkets, and about a dozen Carrefour Express convenience stores. In central Madrid it operates about a dozen Carrefour City shops after acquiring the Superma chain there. It also sells gas and operates about 80 travel agencies. Spain, which parent Carrefour entered in 1973, has grown to become the French retailer's second largest market after France and ahead of Brazil.
