Overview
Cano Petroleum is a "can-do" independent crude oil and natural gas production company. The company (named after 16th century Spanish explorer Juan Sebastian del Cano), focuses on buying undervalued mature properties (primarily in Texas and Oklahoma) that still have development potential. Cano employs enhanced oil recovery operations, including water and chemical flooding, infill drilling, and well recompilations, to increase production on these acquired properties. In 2009 the company reported estimated proved reserves of 49.1 million barrels of oil equivalent. In 2010 Cano agreed to be acquired by fellow oil and gas explorer Resaca Exploitation, but the deal fell through.
