Calavo Growers Company Description
The avocado growers of Calavo Growers might not be a cooperative anymore, but they're still friendly folks. Calavo (the name is a combination of "California" and "avocado") began as a growers' marketing cooperative founded in 1924 in order to transform the exotic hobby crop, avocados, into a culinary staple. And, the avocado has become, if not a staple, then a regular in US supermarket shopping carts. Calavo procures, and processes avocados, tomatoes, and other fresh fruits grown mainly in California, Chile, and Mexico. The products are then distributed to the retail food outlets and foodservice operators throughout the world.
