Cadence Design Systems has designs on enabling engineers to pick up the development tempo. A leader in the electronic design automation (EDA) market, Cadence sells and leases software and hardware products for designing integrated circuits (ICs), printed circuit boards (PCBs), and other electronic systems. Electronics companies use Cadence's products to build components used in wireless devices, networking equipment, and other applications. The company also provides maintenance and support and offers design and methodology consulting services. In June 2008 the company offered to buy rival Mentor Graphics in a deal valued at about $1.45 billion; Cadence abandoned the bid, however, in August 2008.
