Overview
Cabovisão is the #2 cable operator in Portugal behind Portugal Telecom. Cabovisão - Televisão per Cabo offers basic cable, pay-TV, broadband Internet access, and residential phone services over cable to about 230,000 residential customers and 9,000 commercial customers. The company grew its subscriber base by offering cable service to regions not controlled by rival Portugal Telecom. In 2006 the company was acquired by Canadian cable operator Cogeco Cable in a deal valued at about €465 million. Cabovisão's former Canadian parent company, Cable Satisfaction International (Csii), entered bankruptcy protection in 2004 and became a shell company holding Cabovisão's assets.
