Brookfield Properties is no slouch in the commercial property market. It owns more than 100 commercial properties throughout the US and Canada, primarily in the metropolitan areas of Boston, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, DC, Calgary, and Toronto. Its portfolio totals some 75 million sq. ft. and includes most of Manhattan's World Financial Center. It also has a half dozen properties under development. Tenants include Merrill Lynch, CIBC, J.P. Morgan Chase, and Target Corporation. Once the Canadian Arena Corporation, the company built the Montreal Forum in 1924 and for years earned its revenues from the Montreal Canadiens hockey team. The firm is about 50% owned by Brookfield Asset Management.
