The engines that power Brasmotor S.A. are its controlling stakes in appliance maker Multibrás and refrigerator compressor maker Embraco. The holding company's Multibrás makes washers, dryers, microwaves, dishwashers, refrigerators, and air purifiers under such brands as Brastemp and Consul (the two brands dominate Brazil's appliance market), as well as Whirlpool. Other holdings include Brascabos (electric components) and Whirlpool Argentina. The company sold its interest in plastic components maker Multibrás da Amazonia. Founded in 1945, Brasmotor sells worldwide and operates facilities in Brazil, China, Italy, and Slovakia. Whirlpool first invested in Brasmotor in 1958 and acquired a majority stake in 1997.
