When it comes to renting movies, this company is a Blockbuster. Blockbuster is the world's largest video rental chain, with more than 7,100 company-owned or franchised stores in more than 20 countries (about 60% are in the US). The chain rents more than 1 billion videos, DVDs, and video games at its Blockbuster Video outlets each year. Customers also can make rentals, purchases, and watch instant downloads through its Web site, Blockbuster Online, which competes head to head with the likes of Netflix. The company is closing hundreds of stores and has announced plans to divest its foreign operations (about a third of revenues) and focus on North American business as it navigates toward a digital future.
