Holding company BFC Financial controls publicly traded Florida-based bank BankAtlantic Bancorp and Woodbridge Holdings, formerly Levitt Corporation, which was famous for constructing Levittown, New York, widely regarded as the first planned community in the US. BankAtlantic spun off the former Levitt Corporation at the beginning of 2004, but BFC has retained voting control in both firms through its ownership of their common stock and Class B stock.
