Bezeq Company Description
Bezeq The Israel Telecommunication Corp., Israel's former telecom monopoly, has moved onto the open market. To stay competitive, the company, which controls the country's fixed-line services, has been reducing costs. It is Israel's #1 broadband ISP and also owns 100% of leading mobile phone company Pelephone. Bezeq's fiber-optic network is fully digitalized and has 3 million access lines. Plans to privatize Bezeq stalled after the company's once-largest private shareholder, Gad Zeevi, was implicated in a financial scandal. The Israeli government sold a controlling 30% stake in 2005 to a consortium of investors that include media mogul Haim Saban and Apax Partners.
