A busy bee in the power plant industry, BE&K is a top US engineering and construction contractor. Through a network of subsidiaries, BE&K provides engineering, procurement, and construction and maintenance services worldwide for power plants and other facilities in the cement, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and pulp and paper industries. It also serves the telecommunications, manufacturing, environmental, and commercial sectors, and offers technical staffing services through Allstates Technical Services. Houston-based construction giant KBR bought BE&K for some $550 million in 2008.
