Bashas' Company Description
Bashas' has blossomed in the Arizona desert. The food retailer has grown to about 140 stores located primarily in Arizona, as well as a few stores in California and New Mexico. Its holdings include Bashas' traditional supermarkets, AJ's Fine Foods (gourmet-style supermarkets), and about a dozen Food City supermarkets (which cater to Hispanics in southern Arizona). It also operates a handful of Dine Markets in the Navajo Nation ("dine" means "the people" in Navajo) and offers natural and organic items through 50 Natural Choice in-store departments. The company was founded in 1932 and is still owned by the Basha family. Bashas' filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July 2009.
