Barratt American Company Description
Barratt American builds single-family custom homes and condominiums in four development communities in Southern California. The company is divided into divisions aligned by the group's operations: San Diego, Inland Empire, and Custom Homes. Its houses typically range in price from about $280,000 to more than $2 million. UK-based Barratt Developments was parent to Barratt American until 2004, when it sold the company to a management buyout team led by president Michael Pattinson; the deal was valued at some $165 million. The recent housing bust and credit crunch forced the company to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2008. Barratt has scaled back its operations as it restructures itself.
