Austal has ships in just about any shape. At three facilities in Western Australia and one in Alabama, Austal manufactures ferries, cruise ships, military vessels, luxury yachts, and other watercraft. Among the company's products are Armidale patrol boats for the Australian Department of Defense. Austal also provides services related to the operation of its watercraft, including repairs and maintenance. Founded in 1988, Austal plans to develop more business in the high-technology shipbuilding sector. It is also expanding its operations in the US -- where it developed the Hawaii Superferry project -- in order to take on more contracts from the US Navy.
