Small arms, yes, small operation, no. ATK Lake City Ammunition company is a major manufacturer of small arms ammunition. A division of ATK Armament Systems, itself a business group of Alliant Techsystems, the company is the largest US supplier of small-caliber ammunition. Alliant Lake City makes about 1.5 billion rounds each year and has been making it since WWII. The company supplies the US Department of Defense with most of the Army's small-caliber ammunition and makes 5.56mm, 7.62mm, .30 caliber, and .50 caliber cartridges. The ammunition is used for tactical and training applications.
