ASX Limited is the stock market for the Land Down Under. The company, which operates as the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), is one of the largest exchange groups in the world, listing more than 2,000 stocks. Before the creation of the ASX in 1987, Australian stocks could be traded on six different exchanges based in state capitals such as Sydney, Melbourne, and Hobart. ASX expanded its operations through the purchase of Sydney Futures Exchange in 2006. About 149,000 trades are placed each day at ASX. The company itself is listed on the exchange.
