The UK National Health Service (NHS) touts free care for all, and Assura Group is poised to profit from it. The company invests in and develops health care properties in the UK, including hospitals, surgery centers, doctors' offices, and multi-use medical complexes. It currently operates a portfolio of some 120 properties. In 2010 the company sold some 75% of its interest in Assura Medical, which operates a network of general practitioner organizations in the UK, to Virgin Healthcare; it retained the remaining 25%. The move allowed Assura Group to focus on its core real estate activities. The following year, the company acquired AH Medical Properties.
