Ashland Company Description

Ashland is built on chemicals and cars. The company consists of four business units. Ashland Distribution buys chemicals and plastics and then blends and repackages them for distribution in Europe and North America. Ashland Performance Materials makes specialty resins, polymers, and adhesives. Ashland Water Technologies provides both chemical and non-chemical products for commercial, industrial, and municipal water treatment facilities. The company's Valvoline unit operates an oil-change chain and markets Valvoline motor oil and Zerex antifreeze. In 2008, Ashland agreed to pay $3.3 billion to buy specialty chemicals company Hercules, which will add to the company's water treatment and resins businesses.
