Ashland is built on chemicals and cars. The company consists of five business units. Ashland Distribution, which represents half of the its business, buys chemicals and plastics and then blends and repackages them for distribution in Europe and North America. Ashland Performance Materials makes specialty resins, polymers, and adhesives. Ashland Hercules Water Technologies provides chemical and non-chemical products for commercial, industrial, and municipal water treatment facilities. Valvoline runs an oil-change chain and markets Valvoline motor oil and Zerex antifreeze. The last unit is Ashland Aqualon Functional Ingredients, which makes additives for the personal care, food, and pharmaceutical industries.
