ARYx Company Description
Retro is big these days, including in the drugmaking world. ARYx Therapeutics is developing drugs using its "RetroMetabolic Drug Design" technology, which takes old drugs and makes them better and safer. In particular, the technology improves the way certain drugs are metabolized in the liver, thus reducing unwanted side effects. ARYx's lead drug candidate, ATI-7505, uses the same active ingredient as Johnson & Johnson's gastrointestinal drug Propulsid; it was developing the rights for the drug with Procter & Gamble, but P&G pulled out of the deal in 2008. ARYx is also developing "retrometabolized" drugs using the common anticoagulant warfarin and amiodarone, a drug used to treat atrial fibrillation.
