Anthracite Capital Company Description
Anthracite Capital doesn't invest in coal mines, but it does hope its real estate investments will turn into gold. The real estate investment trust (REIT) focuses on non-investment-grade commercial mortgage loans, commercial mortgage-backed securities, and other real estate assets in the US and in international markets. It also provides mezzanine loan financing for commercial real estate transactions, generally partnering with fund manager Carbon Capital (of which it owns approximately 20%). Anthracite is externally managed by investment management firm BlackRock.
