NYSE Alternext US Company Description
NYSE Alternext US (formerly the American Stock Exchange, or AMEX) provides a floor-based auction market that specializes in stocks, bonds, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The exchange lists primarily small and midsized companies and newer issues, and is the US's #2 options exchange (behind the Chicago Board Options Exchange). It also has a growing business in listing structured products and closed-end funds and has begun trading in select Nasdaq stocks. The AMEX exchange was acquired by NYSE Euronext in 2008 and renamed NYSE Alternext US. Its equity trading was subsequently tranferred to the NYSE Euronext trading platform.
