Alternative Tentacles Records Company Description
Alternative Tentacles Records was founded in 1979 by former Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra. While primarily known as a punk label producing artists such as Butthole Surfers, Dead Kennedys, and 7 Seconds, the label is also a reservoir of underground culture, distributing politically-oriented books, magazines, and videos in addition to releasing spoken-word CDs by Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn, among others. Jello Biafra and Alternative Tentacles had been embroiled in litigation with the other former members of Dead Kennedys over control of the Dead Kennedys catalog. Rights to the albums were eventually turned over to Manifesto Records. Alternative Tentacles is owned by Biafra (a.k.a. Eric Reed Boucher).
