AltaCanada Energy Company Description

Not all of AltaCanada Energy's energy resources are in Canada. The oil and gas exploration, production, and marketing company also has interests in properties in Montana. The company is developing shallow gas plays on its land base of more than 200,000 net acres in Blaine County, Montana. Its US subsidiary, Montana Land & Exploration Inc., drilled 34 wells in 2005. In Alberta its core areas are Gunn/Cardiff, Viking Kinsella, and Wildmere. AltaCanada sold operations in five noncore areas in 2003 and 2004 to help finance its Montana operations. The company, which was formed in 1997, has total proved reserves of 3.7 million barrels of oil equivalent.
