ALSTOM Company Description
Even a pared-down ALSTOM moves with great power. Its Power segment -- which was formed when ALSTOM acquired ABB's stake in joint venture ABB Alstom Power -- makes power generation systems and constructs power plants. ALSTOM is also a leading maker of rail equipment, such as railcars and signaling devices, and builds luxury passenger ships (such as the Queen Mary 2), naval vessels, and natural gas tankers. The company sold its transmission and distribution business (distribution equipment used to transfer electricity to large customers) and its industrial turbine unit, among other divested businesses. Europe accounts for about half of ALSTOM's sales.
