But residents also worry about another accident like the collision of two trains two years ago that left them stranded in their homes for hours. The Alabama Department of Transportation has not started building a promised road that would avoid the train tracks.

Alabama State Troopers and local law enforcement were out in full force Labor Day weekend, with extra patrols and checkpoints set up in an effort to prevent drunk driving and other infractions. Cullman County Sheriff Tyler Roden said he considered the weekend a success for his office. "It went well, things went really well," he said.

ALDOT meets with residents to discuss 231 improvements [Dothan Eagle (AL)](27 Aug 2008 04:00:00 EDT)Aug. 27--Residents are ready to curtail traffic on U.S. 231 North in Dothan. The Alabama Department of Transportation held an informal public involvement meeting on Tuesday night to discuss potential improvements to the highway between Ross Clark Circle and John D. Odom Road. "It sounds like a good plan," resident Kim Wilson said. Don and Brenda McNinch think it's a matter of public safety.
