When Enron got into trouble AEI got into the energy game. The company was created as Prisma Energy International to manage Enron's international energy interests (35 businesses in 12 countries) and has grown through acquisitions since then. AEI's business includes natural gas transmission and distribution, power distribution and power generation, as well as retail fuel operations. It serves 6 million customers throughout Asia, Europe, and South America with approximately 39,000 KM of oil and gas pipelines, 160,000 KM of power distribution lines, a gross installed capacity of approximately 1,750 MW, and indirect ownership of more than 1,500 gas stations. Investment firm the Ashmore Group owns AEI.
