Abengoa has an environmental interest in engineering. Through its five operating units (bioenergy, environmental services, industrial engineering and construction, information technology, and solar), the company provides engineering and infrastructure services to the energy, telecommunications, transportation, water, and environmental industries in more than 70 countries worldwide. Abengoa has been diversifying from its core engineering and construction operations to waste management and bioethanol production. It controls Spanish aluminum and steel-dust recycling company Befesa Medio Ambiente and US-based ethanol producer Abengoa Bioenergy Corp. The Benjumea family controls about 56% of Abengoa.
