A. Schulman Company Description
A. Schulman adds color to plastic resins but keeps them from getting red hot. Schulman adds chemicals to basic plastics such as polypropylene, polyethylene, and PVC to give them color and desired characteristics like flexibility or the ability to retard flame. Its products include color and additive concentrates, engineered compounds (such as reinforced plastics), elastomers, and value-added PVC. Customers range from makers of plastics to auto parts. The company also distributes plastic resins made by ExxonMobil Chemical. In 2007 investor the Barington Group threw up a fight about the direction of the company. It managed to win the right to name a director and get Schulman to consider a merger or sale.
